We're pleased to announce that the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Notre Dame is accepting applications from students who will be entering their sophomore, junior or senior year in the fall of 2010 for summer research postions in our department.
Program activities:
The program consists of 10 weeks of full-time research in a faculty laboratory, a seminar program, group meetings in the research labs, special workshops on career choices in the sciences, ethics, problem solving, and scientific writing. There will also be social events to provide opportunities for RESACC participants to interact with other ND students and get to know our community. Lastly, participants will give a formal presentation at the end of the summer in the ND Summer Undergraduate Research Symposium.
Program dates:
The research program will start on Tues, June 1, 2010 and conclude on Friday, August 6, 2010 with a Summer Undergraduate Research Symposium.
Support:
The program provides:
- A stipend of $4000 for the 10-week program
- Housing for the 10-week program
You will need to provide:
- Meals during the program (on-campus meal plans will be available as will access to campus food courts & cafeterias for a la carte meals)
- Transportation to/from Notre Dame
Eligibility:
The program is open to all chemistry and biochemistry majors regardless of nationality who will be entering their sophomore, junior or senior year in the fall of 2010. Women, minority students, disabled students, and students from small colleges are especially encouraged to apply. Select students may be invited to participate in a second summer of supported research.
Application Materials:
The online application requires: (1) a statement of your career goals and research interests, (2) the completed application form, (3) a PDF of an official transcript and (4) two recommendation letters from science faculty. Incomplete applications will not be considered. The Application deadline is 31 March 2010.
Selection:
Preference will be given to students: attending Catholic Colleges who do not have ready access to research experiences in their home institutions; considering advanced degrees in chemistry and biochemistry; rising sophomores and juniors; and desiring a research experience in a laboratory doing cutting edge research.
